An Cridhe is the Isle of Coll’s community centre, opened by HRH Princess Anne on 11th July 2012. An Cridhe means “the heart” in Gaelic as the building is at the heart of life on Coll. It is a multi-purpose facility that caters for the many different needs of islanders and visitors.

An Cridhe makes an excellent venue for a variety of events from meetings and conferences to weddings, parties and ceilidhs. If you’ve got an idea for an event or are interested in holding a function then please don’t hesitate to get in touch – our friendly staff are on hand to help.

Whatever your requirements we are always ready to help so please get in touch if you would like to hire any of our facilities.

An Cridhe is open 9am-9pm, 7 days a week (except Christmas & New Year holidays). This superb facility operates on a self-serve system with a booking tablet at reception. Should you need assistance, office hours are 9am-3pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am-12pm Saturday and Sunday.

Our Services

An Cridhe provides a range of services and bookable spaces for both locals and visitors to use.

  • An Cridhe provides free WiFi in the community centre under the network BT Guest Wifi. This can be connected to for free without a password, simply follow BT’s on screen instructions. Any donations for Wi-Fi use to help with our costs is greatly appreciated.

    We provide printing and photocopying during the week in office hours for 15 pence per page, black and white or colour.

  • An Cridhe has public bathrooms and metered showers open to the public 24 hours a day, part funded by Argyll and Bute Council.

    These can be accessed via the side door and are always available. The showers cost £1 per 3 minutes. Change can be given for notes in the office during office hours.

  • The main hall at An Cridhe has a wide range of uses. You can book in online to use it for sport, included in the hire cost is the use of any of our wide range of sporting equipment.

    You can also book the main hall for parties, group events or kids playgroups. For any large scale vents please contact manager@developmentcoll.org.uk as these are not bookable online.

  • The multi-function room is great for small groups and meetings. If you want to join our craft and art groups, they are hosted here, or can be booked and used as a remote working space.

    The Coll NearMe hub is in the multi-function room, and can be used by anyone to do remote medical consultations at a low cost.

    There is also a piano in this room which can be booked to be used for any budding musicians, this is a bookable option online.

  • Our gym is located on our stage and has a range of gym equipment for use, from cardio focussed equipment like a treadmill and exercise bike, to an adjustable weights bench and even a punching bag.

    This can be booked online for £4 per session, or get a membership for only £15 by speaking to a member of staff.

    Please note all new members must undertake a gym induction from one of our local qualified gym inductors. These often cost around £15 and are paid directly to the individual and not to An Cridhe.

  • The Coll Playpark Committee recently fundraised for a brand new Coll Playpark, since the old one was removed several years ago. What they have achieved is fantastic, and provides and excellent, safe outdoor space for kids of all ages to play.

    The playpark is open to all year round to families looking to entertain their kids, and if you would like to donate to the upkeep and potential expansion of the Coll Playpark, there is a donations box at the gate, which also has a QR code if you would like to donate online.

  • If you wish to hire the whole building for a large event please contact our manager at manager@developmentcoll.org.uk.

    While we have a rate for whole building hire, this is discretional based on the scale of the event and may differ slightly from what is on our price page.

    An Cridhe are able to apply for occasional bar licenses for events, and if you wish to have this as part of your event please indicate this in your initial query, as these licenses are limited and must be applied for at least 35 days prior to the event.

  • An Cridhe is a perfect venue for a DIY style wedding. An Cridhe is an affordable wedding venue, and comes with everything you need to throw a fantastic wedding, from a fully equipped kitchen to a bar, dance floor, stage and more.

    The hire includes exclusive use of the entire building on your wedding day, as well as use from midday the day before to decorate however you choose and set up the building ready your perfect day.

    An Cridhe does not provide wedding catering, however we can do a bar with a range of beers, cider, wine, fizz and spirits.

  • The perfect way to get around the island, An Cridhe has a number of electric bikes for hire.

  • Poppy Young

    AN CRIDHE AND BUNKHOUSE MANAGER

    Poppy grew up on the Isle of Coll and has recently moved back after studying and working on the mainland. She holds an MA in Scottish Ethnology and an MLitt in Museum and Heritage studies, during which she focused on youth engagement in heritage across the Hebrides. 

    Poppy aims to focus on valuable community engagement and sustainable development through her role at An Cridhe and Coll Bunkhouse. 

  • Esther MacRae

    AN CRIDHE AND BUNKHOUSE ASSISTANT

    Esther has lived on Coll for over 40 years, and has been a vital member of the community for much of this time, spending over 30 years as the district nurse, and was, until recently the islands local registrar, overseeing many of the weddings of those resident on Coll today.

    Esther plays a crucial role in the team at An Cridhe, her nursing experience coming in very useful with first aid and health and safety.

    Heather is the person, not the cat. Development Coll are proud to operate an inclusive and welcoming recruitment policy but we draw the line at cats.

Weddings and Building Hire

Whether you want to have your big day on Coll and have An Cridhe as the venue, or are looking to celebrate a big birthday, or put on a larger event, An Cridhe is an excellent venue. With a large function hall, stage with fully equipped PA and a bar that can be run by An Cridhe, or by yourself, we’ve got you covered!

Music Coll 2026

The Tunnell Trust is delighted to welcome you to Music Coll 2026, a three‑day chamber music weekend held 3rd to the 5th of July 2026 at An Cridhe on the Isle of Coll.

The Trust is a Scottish charity supporting emerging chamber ensembles.

After a week of coaching and rehearsal, our young musicians and tutors will perform in three concerts.

Coll Show 2026

Every August, the island comes together for a day that's part competition, part celebration, and entirely Coll. Show exhibits, pet show, fancy dress, sports for all ages, bar, barbecue, prizegiving and of course the infamous Tug of War!

We run the show to encourage creativity, bring the community together, and support the projects that make island life what it is. Every penny we make goes straight back into doing just that.

And the show's not over until everyone's danced. Join us the night after Show Day for an evening with the Argyll Ceilidh Trail Band and loads of raffles prizes!

Coll Half Marathon 2026

The Coll Half Marathon has become an important annual event on the Isle of Coll, with most of the locals involved in running this very popular day. Many runners return each year, not just to challenge themselves as they enjoy the stunning views on this beautiful island, but also to have a fabulous Coll weekend!

An Cridhe, the island’s community centre is the hub of activity for the day. Non participants can spend the afternoon here with a great vantage point for cheering the runners on as they reach their first kilometre and later, welcoming them across the finish line!


Great food and drink will be available during the afternoon and evening and, once the runners are home and refreshed it’s time to Ceilidh, Coll style… An Cridhe will be bouncing with live music. Don’t worry if you don’t know the dances. You will soon pick them up and there will be plenty of people happy to help!


After an energetic happy Saturday and a well deserved good night’s sleep, you can enjoy a cooked breakfast at An Cridhe before the Sunday ferry back to the mainland.

Coll Connections 2027

Coll Connections is a small collaborative folk festival based in the Isle of Coll in the Inner Hebrides.

Coll’s stunning island landscape provides the perfect backdrop for our joyful celebration of music, community and place. It is our preference that customers use online booking where possible. You can use the online service if you are an individual or locally-registered organisation (excl. local branches/premises of larger organisations), and where the hire does not require any of the following: stage use, gym closure, bar licences, open to public, <9am or >9pm.
