E-Bike Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! Coll’s roads are generally quiet and low-speed.

However, a few simple rules should be followed:

    • Slower traffic (including cyclists) should pull over to the side of the road or use passing spaces to allow faster traffic to pass.

    • Coll’s roads have many blind corners, summits and dips and care should be exercised at these.

    • Attention should be paid to the road conditions. The road surface can be rough, and the centre and edges of the road often have loose gravel that can cause skids. In wet weather, there can be standing and running water on the roads, and the surface can be icy in winter and early spring.

  • Visit Coll is a treasure trove of information on the best places to visit on the island.

We kindly ask that bikes not be takenonto the beaches as the sand and salt quickly cause damage to the bikes.

Please respect the natural environment and privately-owned land, particularly where livestock is kept.

  • No! Anyone aged 14 or over can ride an e-bike in the UK.

  • The electric assistance operates up to 15.5mph. Above this, the e-bikes work like regular push bikes and go as fast as you are able to pedal.
